One Day, Death

I wrote a parody of the song, “thank u, next” by Ariana Grande, which is the last installment of the Ariana parody series. I saved this parody for last because the topics I wrote about relate to terminal cancer and death, as the title suggests. I think that this parody is the saddest one of the bunch, so it’s OK to skip over this blog post if these topics bother you. In the meantime, feel free to check out my other poetry musings here.

Even though I haven’t been blogging on a regular basis, you can still find me leaving comments and interacting with this wonderful WP community. Life is up in the air right now since I am forced to self-isolate until further notice. All we can do is take it one day at a time and try to make the best of this #quarantine-life. Thanks for reading! ❤

[Verse 1]
I met a fellow from England
And he was a nice lad
But he carries a secret
Terminal cancer, it’s sad
Even though he has cancer
This may not make him unique
But what makes him so different
Is that he’s willing to speak

[Pre-Chorus]
I learned he’s dying
And he’s not afraid
To go to heaven
So he filled out the MAID
He lost his brother
To cancer last summer
He grieves for his loss
Says life has no meaning
And for that, he says

[Chorus]
On day, death (death)
One day, death (death)
One day, death (death)
I am ready to take my last breath
One day, death (death)
One day, death (death)
One day, death (death)
I am ready…

[Verse 2]
As he lays in his bed
Thinking about his mistakes
He reflects on his life
It’s a little too late
He knows he had neglected his health
And health is wealth
So practice what we preach
We should all know that well

[Pre-Chorus]
He taught me strength (strength)
He taught me weakness (weakness)
How he handles pain (pain)
And learned to surrender
Can’t learn this in college
At least that’s what I think
I have a whole new perspective
Now that death has got meaning
And for that, he says

[Chorus]
On day, death (death)
One day, death (death)
One day, death (death)
I am ready to take my last breath
One day, death (death)
One day, death (death)
One day, death (death)
I am ready…

Thank you, Mohamad! 😄 That is okay if we have different music preferences. I listen to Ariana whenever I am cleaning or cooking, but for deep focus I listen to instrumental music. Once again, thank you so much for supporting this blog and reading all of my blog posts! 😊✨

I’m not sure if I would call myself a song writer, but sometimes I write poetry. Lyrics are very similar to poetry. Personally, I think that lyrics are essentially the same thing as poetry in many ways. 😊😅

I actually read a few of your poems back when I first followed your blog
        They were fascinating!!!
        I can tell you this:
Whoever has the ability to make a song parody so similar and rhyming to the original one in the most creative way is absolutely a talented songwriter and that’s who you are Hilary

Thank you. It’s been a while since I’ve written poetry. I originally started this blog to have a place to store my poetry and recipes, because I kept losing my notebooks and documents. 😂

As for lyrics, I can’t memorize them if my life depended on it, so I often make up my own versions. People who have the ability to memorize song lyrics are talented! 🤣

I’ve really liked these parodies. I’m not an Ariana Grande fan but I like how your parodies relate to the real world and things that people are going through in real life. They’re very raw and beautifully written.

That’s totally fine, Pooja!😇 Tbh I only like her music because it’s catchy. The original lyrics weren’t very memorable, so I figured I could make it better. Why I picked on Ariana for all three parodies beats me; I didn’t plan it that way. I listen to her music a lot when I’m cooking and cleaning so I won’t fall asleep. Yes, all three parodies were based on true stories. Thank you for your support and feedback! 😊💕

Stick to what works, right? I don’t plan on writing more parodies in the future but I am glad that I shared these parodies. I thought about keeping them for myself, but what good is that? I really appreciate the positive feedback that I received for these parodies. Lots of happy feels. 🥰

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of her lyrics but I think that her music is catchy… it’s great to listen to when cleaning the house! Glad I was able to give her lyrics a makeover. Thanks for reading! 😊💕

I’ve had a hard time getting WordPress into my daily routine right now as well. Quite behind on everyone’s blogs but I’m catching up this week. Gotta make a point to not let myself sleep til noon anymore.

I have the WP app on my phone which helps, but it’s not very user friendly when it comes to catching up on comments. I’m mostly caught up with everyone’s blogs except my own. OMG this is so relatable! I have been sleeping in until noon as well, and sometimes even later than that! It’s a terrible habit but seems to be quarantine default mode! 🙊🙈

Unless I click on comments, I don’t get the important notifications either. The phone app is so useful though, which is why I can’t seem to part with it. I totally get what you mean though. Unfortunately, the app does have its limitations….😔

I have so much admiration for Ariana for her catchy songs and for sticking up for herself in a male-dominated industry. I also really like your parody, it’s strangely haunting…

Hi Mohamad! 😃 Thank you for nominating me for an award. I am honored! What I will do is add your link to a draft in my folder for now. At this time, I am still writing Sunshine Blogger Awards and need to finish them before I can move on to the other awards. Having a draft in my folder will remind me not to forget about your nomination. Thank you so much for thinking of me! 😊🤗

Thank you for reading, Jenny! ❤ My secret is my inability to memorize song lyrics so I end up making up words. I can memorize speeches and pages from a textbook, but I am totally incapable of memorizing song lyrics. 😅
